Discount Settings

MadeDaily discounts have only a few required settings and can be configured in minutes.

Discount Type

The MadeDaily eCommerce system supports 5 different discount types:

  • % Off - Apply a discount equal to a percentage of the total of eligible products in the shopping cart.
  • $ Off - Apply a fixed discount to the order regardless of the order total.
  • Free Item - Will apply a discount equal to the lowest cost eligible item in the shopping cart. This discount will only apply to a single item.
  • Free Shipping - Will apply a discount equal to the shipping cost of the order.
  • BOGO - (Buy One Get One) - Similar to the Free Item discount, BOGO will apply a discount equal to the lowest cost eligible item in the shopping cart. This discount will apply to all eligible items in the cart.

Discount Value

This field is only required for "% Off" and "$ Off" promotions and should contain the discount value that would apply to the order. For example, to offer a discount of 20% off of products, select the "% Off" Discount type and enter the number "20" into the Discount Value field.

Exclusive

Exclusive discounts cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotions. Exclusive discounts cannot be automatically applied to orders, so discounts with the Exclusive field set to "YES" must have at least one discount code configured.

If a customer attempts to enter a second discount on an order with an exclusive discount applied, or attempts to apply an exclusive discount to an order that has any other discounts applied, they will be prompted to delete the existing discount before the exclusive discount will apply.

Require Code

When set to "NO" this discount will apply to any order that meets the eligibility requirements. An example of this could be "Shipping FREE if you buy 3 T-shirts." If the Require Code is set to "YES" customers must enter a code to apply this discount. Example: "10% off orders with the code GET_10."

Wildcard Code

Creating a "Wildcard" discount will disable the discount code verification system. Any discount code entered by a customer will be accepted as a valid code and the discount will be applied. Wildcard discounts are processed last, so if other discounts are configured which require valid codes and a customer enters a valid code, the non-wildcard discount will be applied to the order. It is important to note that if the customer mis-types the valid discount code, instead of an error message, the wildcard code will be applied which may be unexpected.

Wildcard discounts are generally not recommended and should be used with care. They are typically used when discount codes are being created and distributed by a 3rd party system or service and those codes are not known ahead of time. For example, some social discount services will not share codes before the customer has purchased the coupon.

Discount Restrictions

Discount restrictions are optional and can be set to limit orders to which a discount can be applied. For example: "Memorial Day savings 20% off all orders Monday only!"

Date Restrictions

  • Not Usable Before - Automatic discounts will not apply before this date/time, a customer entering a code for a discount before the discount becomes active will receive an error.
  • Not Usable After - Automatic discounts will not apply after this date/time, a customer entering a code for a discount after the discount expires will receive an error.

Minimum Item Count

Only orders with this number of eligible products in the cart can apply this discount. This can optionally be combined with category restrictions as well. For example: "10% hats if you buy 3 or more." The default value for this setting is 1.

Minimum Order Value

This discount can only be applied to orders with an eligible product total greater than this value. Note that if product category restrictions are applied, the purchase value of products in the shopping cart that are not eligible for this discount will not be counted toward this total.

Discount Codes

Discounts can be configured to require a customer to enter a specific code to apply the discount. Discount codes can be created manually or generated in bulk using the code generator tool.

New Discount Codes

You can create a new discount code by clicking the green button in the CODES section of your discount. Each discount code must include the code that the customer will enter during checkout and the amount of times the code can be used.

By default the "Max Uses" is set to 1, meaning the discount code is single use. Setting this to any value greater than zero will allow that many redemptions. For example: "Free shipping for the first 10 people who order with the code ORANGE".

Setting "Max Uses" to 0 will allow this code to be used any number of times.
You can view the number of redemptions for each discount code in the "PREVIEW" section of the discount.

Discount Code Generator

The MadeDaily discount system supports the automated generation of random discount codes with a variety of different formats. This is commonly used to pre-generate a large number of single-use coupon codes which can then be printed or sent to individual customers. You can download all of the discount codes for any discount from the "PREVIEW" section. Discount codes are downloaded in CSV format.

Categories

Discounts can be configured to only be applicable if products from an eligible category are in the customer's shopping cart. Both product and class/event categories can be applied to the same discount, and multiple categories can be set on any discount. It is also important to remember that products and classes/events can belong to multiple categories so it is possible to create a special category that is only used for a given promotion and does not affect the shop display on the website.

Preview and Activate

The "PREVIEW" section provides a summary of both new and active discounts. This section is where new discounts are activated, and also where you can view the number of redemptions for each discount code. You can also download a list of all discount codes including the max uses and number of times each code has been redeemed.

When finished, and preview looks correct, click Activate Discount.
